Community Solar for General Subscribers

Price, terms and conditions

Customers may choose to participate in PSE’s Community Solar Project Services (“Community Solar” or “Community Solar service”) under PSE’s electric tariff Schedule 134 by subscribing to Community Solar Resource Options (“shares”) in a Community Solar project site at a rate of $20 each share per month. The total amount of your selected shares, or “subscription,” will be added to your PSE electricity bill each month until you discontinue your participation. You will receive energy credits associated with the solar production from the Community Solar project site you select for your Community Solar subscription. Each share of Community Solar to which you subscribe has a minimum term of one year after the date on which you subscribe to that share and is associated with the Community Solar project site that you selected for that share. If you terminate your subscription before the end of the required minimum one-year subscription period, a one-time early-exit fee of $20 per share will be applied. After the end of the required minimum one-year subscription period, you may discontinue your participation from PSE’s Community Solar service at any time at no cost by calling our Energy Advisors at 1-800-562-1482, or by writing to the address below.

How will I be billed?

Your Community Solar monthly rate will be listed as a separate line item on your monthly PSE electricity bill. The energy credit you receive through PSE's Community Solar service will be listed as a separate line item on your monthly PSE electricity bill. In addition to charges under your existing electric service, your monthly rate for Community Solar will include: 1) Community Solar Energy Credit, a credit for the energy-related power cost component of the Energy Charge of your electric service, and 2) Community Solar Charge, the charge for your Community Solar subscription.

How will my bill be calculated?

Customers who choose to participate in PSE's Community Solar service must subscribe to a minimum of one share at a rate of $20 per month, which is equivalent to a 1.46kW share of the Community Solar project site you select for your subscription. The energy charge credit is equal to $0.045 per kWh produced by your share(s) in the project site. The monthly subscription charge(s) is in addition to all other charges contained in the rate schedule under which you, the customer, receives electricity service. The monthly subscription charge(s) for shares in your selected Community Solar project site will be applied to your monthly PSE electricity bill regardless of your actual energy usage.

How much will my total electricity service cost, including utility charges?

Customers who participate in the Community Solar service will pay their normal monthly electricity charge plus see a line item for their Community Solar subscription (”Community Solar Charge”) and a line item for their energy credit (“Community Solar Energy Credit”). For example, if—in a given month—your electricity charge is $53 and you have selected a $20 share of Community Solar and receive a $12 Community Solar Energy Credit in a given month, then your monthly charge will be $53+$20-$12=$61 that month. Note that your actual monthly PSE electricity bill will vary based on your electricity use and the actual solar production from the applicable Community Solar project site chosen for your subscription.

Will my rates related to PSE's Community Solar service change over time?

Utility service rates are subject to change over time. All rate changes require approval from the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission. Customers will be notified within one month of a rate increase or decrease applicable to PSE's electric tariff Schedule 134 (“Community Solar Project Services”).

Can I subscribe to multiple shares in a Community Solar project site?

Customers may subscribe to multiple shares in any available Community Solar project site, but cannot subscribe to shares equivalent to greater than 120% of their average monthly electricity use, as calculated over the previous 12-month time period. No customer can subscribe to shares greater than 40% of a Community Solar project site’s total available shares. At least 50% of each Community Solar project site’s available shares must be reserved for residential customer subscriptions. PSE may periodically review the number of shares of Community Solar to which a customer subscribes to verify compliance with the requirements as outlined in electric tariff Schedule 134.

What length of participation is required? If I want to terminate my participation, is there an early termination fee?

There is a minimum one-year subscription period for each share of Community Solar to which you subscribe under the Community Solar service. Customers who choose to discontinue their subscription of one or more shares of Community Solar prior to the completion of the applicable one-year subscription period will be charged a one-time early-exit fee equal to $20 per share. After the applicable one-year subscription period for a given share of Community Solar ends, there is no contract or termination fee; you may discontinue your subscription to such share at any time.

What other fees might I be charged?

There are no additional fees associated with PSE’s Community Solar service.

What if I move, will I be able to keep my shares in the Community Solar service?

If a customer moves to a new location within PSE's electric service area and notifies PSE at least thirty (30) days in advance of their move, and if the customer continues to be eligible to participate in the Community Solar service, PSE will make its best attempt to transfer the customer's Community Solar subscriptions to the customer's new location and to automatically renew such subscriptions. If a customer does not notify PSE at least thirty (30) days in advance of their move, PSE may withdraw the customer from the Community Solar service at no cost; the early-exit fee will be waived. Customers who move outside of PSE’s electric service area will be withdrawn from the Community Solar service at no cost; the early-exit fee will be waived.
